Stellantis, the global auto giant behind brands like Jeep and Citroën, is bringing Chinese EV maker Leapmotor to India through a new joint venture called Leapmotor International, where Stellantis holds a 51% majority stake.
The first Leapmotor models are expected to debut in India by 2025, starting with the C10 SUV and the compact T03 city car. These EVs will aim for everyday buyers, going head-to-head with popular models like the Tata Punch EV and MG Comet.
The C10, already available in Nepal, is a mid-size electric SUV that blends sleek design, tech-forward features, and impressive range, positioning it as a value-packed option for urban families. The T03, meanwhile, is a smaller, more affordable EV designed for dense city streets.
To keep prices competitive, Stellantis is reportedly exploring local assembly of Leapmotor vehicles in India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. This move would significantly lower manufacturing costs and allow Leapmotor to challenge established EV players in the market.
With the Indian EV segment heating up, Leapmotor’s entry, backed by Stellantis’ reach and resources, could shake up the status quo in 2025.
